This Audi A3 2.0L PD engine came into LVS`s workshop for a Timing Belt & Water Pump replacement. The timing belt is one of the most important service items on any vehicle, as it is the only thing keeping the timing of the engine in check. Already a regular LVS customer, Mr. Carson came in having just replaced his old car with an Audi A3; the customer requested LVS to perform a VHC on the car, and review the service history records. This highlighted that the timing belt had not been replaced in-line with the manufacturers schedule, showing that it was in fact overdue.

Audi recommend their timing belts to be replaced on the 2.0L PD engines every 5 years, or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. If a timing belt is overdue it is important to ensure it is replaced as soon as possible. Should the timing belt fail, the engines timing will be compromised and often has catastrophic results, causing internal damage which leads to higher repair bills into the thousands of pounds. Our customer with this A3 however was well aware of the dangers of an overdue timing belt thanks to a detailed conversation with the LVS team when the timing belt was due on his previous vehicle.

Mr. Carson dropped the car in with us and took advantage of one of our loan vehicles for the day while the work was carried out. One of our highly skilled technicians carried out the work as required. During the work, as always we used a genuine O.E timing belt kit, which enabled us to replace the timing belt, the belt tensioner and the belt rollers to ensure all vital components are new and correct.

In-line with manufacturers guidelines the water pump was also changed during the timing belt replacement. The water pumps have been known to fail if they are not replaced at the same time as these are driven by the timing belt. To compliment this work the coolant was also replenished.

Once the work was completed, their vehicle’s service book was updated and stamped to record the work done, giving our customer that vital service history and peace of mind. He was then telephoned on the completion of the work and came in to collect his car with nothing but thanks and praise for another job well done by the LVS team!!
